Engagement Strategies: Cabrini Research Project

As our school communities become increasingly culturally and linguistically diverse, it is important to ensure reflexive and responsive student and family engagement and communication strategies.  In response to concerns that some African-Australian families were experiencing challenges in communicating with schools, CESA implemented The Cabrini Collective in 2018 with selected metropolitan schools, to develop effective practices for engaging with students and families from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

A research project was conducted throughout 2018 and 2019 through the Cabrini Collective schools, in conjunction with Uni SA as Research Partner, aiming to identify strategies for improving engagement. While this research specifically focused on the African-Australian community, the practices and approaches described could be applicable to other CALD communities.

For further information about the Cabrini Collective, see the summary of work and the full Research Project report.   Also, research findings were collated into a series of 6 video resources to support how we understand and develop engagement strategies for CALD students and their families within our schools.
